Hi Tom,

This is an interesting set of comments on the OPAC. It's hard for me to keep up with what the author wants in her OPAC. She seems to want everything in one place with all the features of online resources, but then seems to veer off saying it should be separate.

I agree with random parts of what she says, but this is such a large issue and it needs to cross all levels of libraries, particularly for students in school libraries. I believe our job is to teach students to find information in many ways, from kindergarten through college and beyond. Unless all of these libraries will evolve and change and provide one point of access to the building and the world, we still need to teach students to adapt, and be creative and think of other ways to find what they need. I complicates everything if one is looking for a real "thing" or trying to put a real thing on a shelf somewhere. Digital, electronic resources can morph, while the latest Harry Potter goes to the shelf, the book cart, the hand of a patron, the new book shelf, etc.

I don't know if I have made myself very clear in this comment, but I wanted to say something. We certainly need to talk about it.
